This visually impaired student makes history

Aziza Saeed, a student of Lahore’s Government College University (GCU), made history as she became the first visually impaired student to complete her Ph.D. in Urdu language.

She enrolled in the varsity’s Ph.D program in 2010 and completed her doctorate in 2017 after her thesis was registered on international level.

The path was difficult for her but she managed to overcome the odds.

Aziza said that she did not have the recordings of her books.

She said, “I used to have them recorded. I use to write on braille system and later had them written in common language.”

Apart from having a doctorate, she is also working as an assistant professor at Lahore College for Women University.

Aziza wants educational institutes to start recording their books in order for the visually impaired students to progress without facing any issues.
