Supreme Court to hear Aasia Bibi for the last time on Blasphemy case

The Supreme Court, on October 13, will take into consideration Aasia Bibi’s final appeal against her death sentence, for committing  a sacrilege.

Aasia Bibi has been booked for death row since November 2010. She was held culprit for vocalizing unacceptable words against Islam; during an argument with a Muslim woman in her home town Sheikhupura.

She was backed by the then Punjab Governor, Salman Taseer, who appealed to the court that she didn’t know about the ethics of religion and should be pardoned. However, Taseer was shot by his own guard, Mumtaz Qadri, in January 2011.

There would be a special three-judge bench to consider her appeal; comprising of Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman and Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik, and headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.

Aasia’s counsel Saiful Malook has expressed his firm conviction that he would stand-out as glorious in the final appeal of the case. Saiful Malook also gained victory as the main prosecutor of Mumtaz Qadri murder case.
