Posting your fitness routine to Facebook is a sign of psychological problems - Study

According to a recent study by researchers from the Brunel University in London, people who tend to share daily workout updates on Facebook are facing psychological problems. The researchers questioned and recovered as to why people share every workout update on social media. Surprisingly, the results are unflattering, to say the least.

Addicted to attention and esteem

It is studied that people who are always keen on documenting and capturing every moment at the gym or any other workout regime, tend to be narcissists. According to the researchers, the basic goal is to showoff or brag about how much time you invest in your looks. Apparently, with the rise of social media usage, these status updates seem to get more likes and engagement then any other posts on Facebook particularly.

“Narcissists more frequently updated about their achievements, which was motivated by their need for attention and validation from the Facebook community”, the study concludes. Apparently, the number of likes most definitely doesn’t mean that everyone loves seeing those bragging posts.

Dr Tara Marshal goes on saying, that “although our results suggest that narcissists’ bragging pays off because they receive more likes and comments to their status updates, it could be that their Facebook friends politely offer support while secretly disliking such egotistical displays.”

Unless you get creative and unique in your workout, hold back to those daily workout updates from the gym, your friends might just thank you for it.
