PEMRA suspends Din News and Neo TV's license, slaps fine on Such TV

PEMRA has suspended the licenses of Din News and Neo TV along with the fine of Rs.1 million. The charges have been put up due to the imposition of unsubstantiated accusations on the Supreme Court Judge by the channels. Moreover, Such TV has also been fined with Rs.1 million for airing unsuitable remarks by a caller.

Earlier, on November 19, the TV channels were issued notice for airing derogatory content and were asked to submit their reply till November 26, 2016. The channels were asked to submit their reply on the accusation in front of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA). However, upon submission, the representatives and legal authorities of the channels failed to provide any satisfactory answer for the attempt on debasing the higher authorities.

After the court hearing, PEMRA deferred the license of Din News and Neo TV’s license for 30 and 7 days, respectively, along with the fine of Rs.1 million. Moreover, Such TV has also been pasted with fine of Rs.1 million, with the deadline of 15 days.
