Microsoft bringing a new addition to its surface family!!

Microsoft is bringing a new addition to its Surface family, by launching its third device Surface Pro 7.

Surface 7, is ready to take on the mid-range tablet market, the cloud based Chromebook market, and to bring Qualcomm into the Surface portfolio alongside stalwarts Intel and the possible introduction of AMD via the Surface Laptop.

WCCF Tech’s Omar Sohail says that:

” In terms of performance, the Microsoft Surface 7 is expected to have Qualcomm’s ARM-based Snapdragon 8cx under the hood. Though Qualcomm’s earlier press details revealed the Snapdragon 8cx was powerful enough to take on Intel’s quad-core 15W i5-8250u designed for ultra-books, recent bench-marking results reveal Qualcomm’s silicon is still lower than Intel’s offering.”

The benefit of having a Snapdragon 8cx means that the device will likely also offer always-on 4G LTE. The report also states that USB-A and Mini Display-Port connections will be retired in favor of USB-C as this will help the device achieve a much thinner design.

It’s worth noting that Microsoft has the Surface Go in the portfolio, this Windows 10 tablet has been targeted towards enterprise customers, specifically at point of sale and on factory and warehouse floors. Assuming that the Go will continue and there’s no indication that it’s a dead end then there is space for a much more consumer friendly tablet. That would be the Surface 7.

The intel powered Surface 3 Pro sat the Surface 3, a lower specced tablet using the Intel Atom chip-set. While the Surface Pro 3 introduced the new form factor the the Surface tablets and was arguably the first of the professional tablets that could replicate the power of a desktop or high-end laptop, the Surface 3 took on the tablet market dominated by the iPad.

The Surface Pro 7 will be what was the Surface Pro 3. It will have a similar style, but be smaller and targeted to a smaller set of apps.

Surface 7 will be able to make better use of the cloud services and online experiences through the browser. That will get over the obvious question of app compatibility if the Surface 7 utilities a Qualcomm SnapDragon chipset.
