According to sources it has been reported that Lt. Gen Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmed is likely to be the new Chief of Army Staff, after the retirement of Gen Raheel Sharif by the end of November. It has been said that the new Chief will be taking up the office on 22nd November, whereas, Gen Raheel Sharif will retire on November 28.
General Raheel Sharif appointed Lt. Gen Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmed as the new CGS and even before his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General was Director General Military Operations (DGMO) for over two years.
Lt. Gen Ishfaq Nadeem belongs to 34-AK; commanded a strike infantry division and led a successful military operation in Swat. He was also Chief of Staff of strike Corps Mangla as Brigadier and is rated amongst the finest soldiers in Pakistan’s Army.
“Pakistan is heading fast towards prosperity, glory and stability with democracy taking firm roots and Pakistan Armed Forces are fully ready to thwart any outside and inside challenges,’ said a former retired Army General. The appointment of General Raheel Sharif and most likely, now, the new CGS Lt. Gen. Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmad are held as a “good omen.”
