Imran Tahir faces extreme backlash for paying tribute to Junaid Jamshed

South African spinner Imran Tahir has been rebuked by the authorities at the International Cricket Council (ICC) for paying tribute to late Junaid Jamshed by lifting his shirt and displaying JJ’s face imprinted on the undershirt during a match with Sri Lanka a few days ago.

As per ICC, the South African bowler flaunted a personal message without taking any permission from the concerned authorities from ICC or his country.

This contravenes Section G1 of the ICC Clothing and Equipment Rules and Regulations, which says: Players and team officials shall not be permitted to wear, display or otherwise convey messages through armbands or other items affixed to clothing or equipment unless approved in advance by both the player or team official’s and the ICC Cricket Operations Department,’ reads ICC’s statement.

When asked about the alleged offence, Imran Tahir accepted his mistake and stood to the sanction imposed by the international governing body.

Mr. Tahir had a close religious connection with the late televangelist cum singer and his death left him in an immense shock.
