Former Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations Asim Bajwa is allegedly discontinuing the Twitter account, registered under his name by the media wing of Pakistan Army.
Asim Bajwa’s official twitter handle of ‘@AsimBajwaISPR’ had garnered over 3.05 million followers, under his tenure as DG ISPR.
Due to an active exposure with the Army news and his vigorous military updates, Asim Bajwa’s account became the hub of Army activities and alerts. Among his followers were the popular names like bureaucrats, journalists, international organizations, political personalities, and lawyers.
Due to the transference of power and the title of “DG ISPR” to Major General Asif Ghafoor, the twitter account will also be renamed to Bajwa’s successor. In case, former DG ISPR negates with the transference of account than ISPR will have to build up a new account for the current DG.
Although there is another official account for Army’s Media wing with the handle ‘@ISPR_Official’, but it has insufficient fan following and public presence when compared to Asim Bajwa’s account.
Apart from Twitter, Asim Bajwa also used a Facebook account with nearly 2 million followers. However, as per the sources, Bajwa is unwilling to transfer it to incoming Director General.
The new handle ‘@OfficialDGISPR’ of Gen Asif Ghafoor amassed over thirteen thousand followers in only a day, but gaining over 3 million followers is a very hard task.
